If you change your lifestyle including diet, exercise and bad habits, you’ll find that your weight will drop off and it will stay off. It sounds extreme, but if you’re really dedicated to change you will find it comes a lot faster than you expected. Here are some ideas to help you on your journey:
Don’t go the diet shake route. Shakes and diet bars are very calorie dense and do not satisfy hunger for long. You are likely to find yourself hungry and wanting for food almost immediately after what was supposed to be your meal. Many of these foods are also have a great deal of sugar, causing a spike in blood sugar, leaving you unhappy.
Legumes and beans of all kinds help greatly when people are trying to lose weight. Beans have almost no fat, are packed with protein and B vitamins, and satisfy the appetite in a way that extremely low-calorie vegetables don’t. They can provide a healthy and lower-calorie substitute for meat; even for meat lovers. Legumes lend body and flavor to soups, veggie burgers, ethnic dishes, and many other things.
Never let yourself get too hungry. Keep a small container of fresh, raw vegetables, plain raw almonds or cut-up fruit to munch on whenever you start to get hungry. Small, healthy snacks throughout the day keep your energy up and help you resist the temptation to go crazy with high-calorie food.
When attempting to lose weight, it’s generally a good idea to get a physical. When you get a physical, your doctor will let you know if there are any medical conditions you need to be aware of, or if they’ll restrict you. It’s also important to get your thyroid checked.
Two fantastic words for weight loss: eat salad. Not exciting enough? Research by Joel Fuhrman of “Eat to Live” shows that the most overweight people can lose prodigious amounts of weight eating prodigious amounts of nutrient-rich, low-calorie food. One key is simplicity: try an entire head of romaine, chopped very fine (the water method in the blender is useful), and topped with an entire can of chili beans. It’s a tasty, 300-calorie lunch that is jam-packed with fiber, protein, and vitamins. It will keep you full for hours, not to mention what it will do for your intestinal health.
If you are trying to lose weight you need to make sure to eat enough food. If you skip meals your body can go into starvation mode. It starts to lower your metabolism and store fat. This is the opposite of what you want. Eat regular, small meals of high quality food.
Try not to get discouraged if you can’t notice a difference a few days into a new weight loss diet. Remember, it is very hard to put on a pound overnight, so don’t expect to be able to lose a pound that quickly either. One good way to monitor your weight loss is to take one photograph at the end of every month, then look back through the photos after 6 months.
